My Beauty Shopping List
Sadly summer is heading into its final weeks and that means fall and winter beauty collections are on the rise, so there is even more to buy than usual. There are about 10 new foundations on the market, fun beauty tools, and even unique and affordable skincare releases. It is all so glamorous and more importantly, intriguing. Personally, I want it all. But as a girl on a budget, I must stick to a list.
Even though I have a wish list full of luxury beauty products I will probably only ever dream about, I thought I would share my top picks from some of the newest launches, so that you can get an idea of what you might be interested in.
Forth Ray Beauty
Fourth Ray Beauty is the new sister brand to ColourPop, which you may know as a super affordable and cruelty-free makeup innovator. And Fourth Ray Beauty is not a let down in comparison. It is everything you would expect plus some. It launched a full line of skincare, as well as accessories like scrunchies, headbands, and even a rose quartz facial roller. And the best part is that everything is under $20. The packaging is chic and simple, also cruelty-free, and 100% vegan. Eventually, I would love to try everything from the brand, but what I am most intrigued by is their Later Hater spot treatment, as it looks identical to my favorite one from Mario Badescu, but is more affordable. And on top of the adorable accessories, the BFD cleansing oil sounds so indulgent and ideal for my combination skin.
Revolution x The Emily Edit
Now technically this is no longer on my shopping list because I just ordered it, but I had to share. Emily Noel, one of my all-time favorite YouTubers, recently announced her collaboration with Makeup Revolution. She launched two palettes; the Wants and the Needs. Since I have all the makeup I could ever need, naturally, I went for the Wants. Not only did I want to support this genuine and beautiful wife and mother of two, who has been a staple beauty guru to turn to for years, but the palette itself is so unique while still remaining wearable. The shades look pigmented, it comes with a generous-sized mirror, and again Makeup Revolution is cruelty-free.
Pixi Retinol Tonic
Sorry to be a broken record, but let’s just say all of these products are cruelty-free, including, the new Pixi Retinol Tonic. Pixi is such an underrated beauty brand. With both skincare and makeup at an affordable price and available at Target it is shocking how overlooked it is. I have loved their correctors, their lip products, and their original Glow Tonic in the past, but their latest release has gotten me so curious. The Retinol Tonic is a lilac colored toner of sorts, but rather than just cleansing the skin, it is said to have youth preserving ingredients that promote softer and smoother skin, as well as providing with a healthy glow. I am a tad skeptical of this as retinol can go one way or the other, but for only $15, when the time is right, it is coming home with me.
I recently fell in love with the brand Raw Sugar. They sell cold-pressed body care products that smell like heaven, but probably even better, no offense to heaven, but really. Their Raw Coconut + Mango Body Wash is the most luxurious and tropical smelling product I could ever even begin to imagine. Since trying that, I’ve been dying to get my hands on the Body Butter in the same scent. Now they sell lip balms, hair products, hand washes, and more, but if the body butter is even half as moisturizing and indulgent as the body wash, I will have found my holy grail.
When I was researching for Openletr’s Natural Nail Polish post, I found it shocking how dangerous traditional polishes were. And as I was discovering more and more brands that were free of harsh chemicals, Zoya kept catching my eye. Now keep in mind that I rarely wear nail polish as I cannot be bothered with chipping and waiting for it to dry, but I do like to wear a natural shade on my toes. That is when I came across the Zoya Perfectors. These are sheer toppers for other colors or can be worn on their own. They come in 6 shades to suit your style and the natural undertone of your nails. I already bought their Buff Perfector. It is nice, but too peachy for me, so I think the Pink Perfector would be my perfect neutral shade for every day, so that is the one on my list right now. These babies do not chip, dry so fast, and just look so chic and simple.
I am sure I could go on and on all day about the beauty products I want to try, but these are on top of my list right now. What is on your beauty shopping list?
With all of the beauty boxes available, it is difficult to choose the right one. I scoured the world wide web and discovered the most indulgent boxes you are sure to adore. In some, you’ll discover brands you’ve never heard of and, in others, you’ll trial full size and deluxe samples of the most coveted beauty products in the world of pampering.
As much as we love the no-makeup makeup look, especially, during Summer when heavier makeup melts right off, a simple trick is to switch your lip color up. But you don’t want to go for just any bold color and pinky peach isn’t the only option. The latest trends include unique tones, monochromatic looks, and a long-awaited change of texture.
The beauty industry has been breaking the barriers for inclusion in the areas of race, body shape, and gender. We now see models showing off the beauty of their skin conditions, flaws, and truths. But there still seems to be a missing demographic. The mature women. Here are the brands that have given them the attention they deserve.
I’m guessing you heard of the term hyaluronic acid at least once in the past week. It could’ve been in an Instagram ad, on a Neutrogena commercial, or even from your BFF. This is a highly trendy and coveted skincare ingredient. But why, and what does it do?
Have you noticed the abundance of CBD and hemp oil in some of the latest beauty launches? If not, you must be living under a rock. This cannabis craze is taking over everything from skincare to makeup and more. Is it actually effective or is it just a trend? Even with this growing use of CBD, many people still don’t understand its benefits and safety.
After years of this biotin craze, newer beauty vitamin brands are launching what seems like every day with different ingredients to target specific beauty needs. While biotin is still on the top of the beauty vitamin list of ingredients, there are tons of other formulations making their way into this field. So which one is right for you?
We are unveiling Spring/Summer 2019 eyeshadow colors and trends. This season is all about experimenting with the bright and neutral tones, keeping makeup to a minimum while making a statement. Nearly every cosmetics brand from affordable to indie and luxury have launched their own take on the latest color trends for 2019.
It is no secret the beauty world contributes to the abundance of plastic waste taking over our planet. With plastic shampoo bottles, mascara wands and powder compacts, we add more to the earth’s collective pollution. And the very least we can do is to shop from brands with sustainability in their DNAs.
Having an allergy or bad reaction to beauty products is very common and very annoying. With all the questionable ingredients that is no surprise. It can be difficult to determine what is okay and what is not. And the FDA regulations are not always as strict or safe as we would like. While everyone has different sensitivities, there are some ingredients that are well known to cause problems.
We are all familiar with powder highlighters like the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter, cream highlighters like Benefit Watts Up, and even liquid highlighters. But there is a newcomer to the world of makeup. She has taken off like nothing I have seen before; she is the jelly highlighter.
With a new season comes a new style; a hairstyle that is. Let’s change things up for the warmer weather. The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and ladies are strutting out of the salon with the latest hairstyle trends. You can chop it off, layer it up, or simply add an accessory, and your hair will be ready to say hello to spring.
Changing your nail color can change your entire look. Adding a red nail to a basic tee and jeans gives you unmistakable class. Going from nude nails to a bright white gives a neutral yet crisp and clean vibe. And if you decide on nail art, you can show every detail of your personal style.
Along with the beauty products you always hear about, there are plenty of fantastic ones flying under your radar. Sometimes stepping outside of your comfort zone and dipping your toes into a new and unfamiliar territory is just what your beauty routine needs!
Just as in all aspects of life, the beauty world has its fair share of controversies. From cosmetics application methods to brand drama, there have been disagreements that have gone down in the makeup books for years. You know how the world is split on pineapple pizza? Well, the beauty industry is split on some things too.
There are just some brands that have been around the block and then again. They are classics, but along with new product launches, new brands are popping up now more than ever. The beauty market is in dire need of a shake up, and it seems that start-ups rather than big budget leaders are here to make it happen, with broader shade ranges, new ideas, and fun concepts.
After dying my hair regularly for more than 10 years, I have tried it all. I have gone to the salon for bleach. I have colored my own hair, going brown, blonde, and red. I have used purple shampoos, toners, and every product I could find. With all that experience, I have tried, tested, and relied on the best products around.
We have all heard of food fasting; some of us do it for health reasons, others for religious ones. All in all, fasting is beneficial for controlling your blood sugar, heart health, weight loss, and some experts say it can even aid in cancer prevention. But, what is the deal with skin fasting?
There are popular versions of acne spot treatment. There are luxury ones and drugstore alternatives. And although they are all marketed in the same general way, used in the same way and tend to share common ingredients, they are not identical. I cannot tell you which came first, but I can tell you which does what, how they are rated, and which is my personal favorite.
At one time I would have said Target sold drugstore beauty brands, you know the classics: CoverGirl, L’Oreal, Maybelline. But, Target has been shaking things up recently. Not only have a lot of stores gotten a “next generation” makeover at the high-end level, but their beauty sections have exploded with new brands, relaunched ones, and a decent selection of cruelty-free and eco-friendly findings.
Practical and natural beauty products can be hard to come by, sometimes nearly impossible. What’s natural is not always the best and what’s the best is not always natural. Whichever end of the natural beauty and makeup spectrum you land on, these are some of the latest in the natural-ish world of beauty.
It is a new year! We get to redefine ourselves, set goals, and hopefully stick to them. But, a new year comes with a breath of fresh and frigid cold air right to the face. We have already discussed skincare changes you can make to accommodate yourself for the cooler weather in our "Skincare Products For Fall" post, but what about makeup changes?
The exfoliators you used back in the day, St. Yves among others, probably had little plastic beads in them, which are now banned. Not only were these detrimental to the environment but they could burst within the pores causing serious damage. All of those have since been replaced with physical exfoliators. What is a physical exfoliator, you ask? Here are basics of exfoliation!
Tis the season for shopping. If your friends gave you a list of exactly what they want, good for you, but not all of us are so lucky, and finding gifts they will LOVE can be tricky. So here are some last minute beauty gifts Ideas according to personalities!
For how long has makeup been marketed solely to women? Just because a product has pink packaging, is sold near handbags, and being used by female models does not mean it is only meant for women. And times are changing. Men, transgenders, and those who are gender-neutral are making their voices heard in the beauty world.
Drugstore brands have just as much money as high-end brands and quite often the actual products are just as good. So let’s take a minute to focus on some new and standout products from the drugstore. These are not just new shades of blush, but products we don’t often see at drugstore prices.
Natural beauty is on the rise. The brands we love and the products we buy all contain natural essence, organic this, and plant-derived that. There is a reason we adore them so much; they work. Essential oils have been used in beauty routines and rituals for centuries. So, here are some tips on essential oils and DIYs for your skin type.
Finding hidden gems in the beauty world can be nearly impossible. Everyone is screaming from the rooftops about brands like Urban Decay and Tarte, but what about the products that are not getting the praise they deserve? Discover the undiscoverable, the diamond in the rough, the latte in a world of instant coffee.
For real summer is officially over. What does that mean for your beauty routine? Your skin will most likely start to parch, and that increase in dryness is localized on your cheeks, lips, under eyes, back, and legs. So, other than amping up your moisturizer game, here is how you can make your skincare and beauty routines work this fall.
As much as budget buying in the beauty world is easy and convenient, there is nothing like splurging on luxury beauty products. Whether it be skincare, makeup or hair care, when you invest in yourself the feeling is indescribable. So here are just some of the luxury brands that not only make you look amazing, but make you feel extra fabulous.
Have you heard of franken-makeup? Maybe not. After all, it is a relatively new idea and is not exactly a running success. No, it isn’t making your makeup look like Frankenstein or anything like that. It also isn’t the next cat eye or liquid lip craze. It was first introduced to the online beauty community about a year ago by one of the most unique creators there is Safiya Nygaard.
