What's New in Beauty: Drunk Elephant, Flesh, Living Proof, Milani and EM Cosmetics
New products, exclusive releases, and brand launches — It is all happening now. And it is actually becoming hard work to keep up with all the new beauty coming out. There are new palettes, new lip products, and complete ranges to check out. So what is on the hot list right now?
Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Serum
Since Drunk Elephant launched, they have taken over the luxury skincare world. Their serums have made huge waves in the industry and nearly every medicine cabinet photo you see on Instagram has at least one of their adorable bottles in it. But what is the latest? Their D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Sunshine Serum. It is described as sunshine in a bottle. Not only does it offer your skin endless benefits like vitamin D, fatty acids, and antioxidants, but it also provides the most gorgeous sun kissed bronzey glow. This serum has immediately become a go-to for summer, and even more important now that we are entering fall. You can skip the foundation, get your skincare benefits, and a touch of color all at once with this brand new gem.
A new beauty brand launched at Ulta, and it has had some controversy. The name of the brand, Flesh, along with the name of the products is a bit much for some. For example, their Firm Flesh Thickstick Foundation and Fleshy Lips Lipstick sounds a little provocative. That is not to dis the brand. With an initial launch of 12 products that have a huge shade range, it is definitely something to look into. If you are a fan of Revlon, you will be glad to hear that Flesh is the first prestige brand launched by the beauty giant. But even with that ownership, this brand screams indie. With 40 shades of their foundation stick, multiple shades of lip and cheek products, and even an eye and cheek gloss, the products are unique and inclusive. Honestly, they deserve a round of applause for their impressive shade range. They definitely have some exciting products worth looking into.
Living Proof No Frizz Instant De-Frizzer
And the ideal launch for this rainy and humid season we are finally in, is the Living Proof No Frizz Instant De-Frizzer. Living Proof has a full and growing line of luxury haircare and styling products that have been bestsellers since the brand’s inception. But this latest launch is one for the books and for your hair. If you struggle with endless frizz due to humidity, this is a game changer. It even comes in a mini size, perfect for travelling. You don’t have to wait for your hair to adjust to the weather or deal with Monica Geller Barbados level frizz, use this spritz and your hair will have no clue just how muggy it is outside.
Milani Cosmetics Gilded Desires
Milani Cosmetics is sort of the underdog of the drugstore. With affordable prices, high quality products, unique items and classy packaging, they still seem to fly under the radar. Their blushes, powders, and lipsticks are some of the best. But their eyeshadows just have not made a name for themselves. That’s changing with their most recent exclusive launch at Ulta. Gilded Desires face and eye palette is not only under $20, but looks like a luxury item. It features shimmery jewel tones, creamy mattes, and two velvety highlighter shades. Not to mention it beats out other drugstore palettes, as it has a huge mirror and comes in a heavenly compact. So if you have been on the hunt for a versatile yet budget-friendly palette, this may just be it.
EM Cosmetics True Gloss
Do you remember a few years back when Michelle Phan, the successful beauty guru, launched her own beauty brand: EM Cosmetics? Well she began with a full launch of eye pencils, palettes, mascara and more. Some of the products received wonderful reviews, while others fell flat. But recently the EM Cosmetics website and social pages were wiped and redesigned from scratch. They made a fresh start, and are slowly releasing beauty products that have been patiently created with tons of thought and detail. Starting out with some killer eyeliners, EM Cosmetics has now released two collections of lip products, and they are receiving only the highest honors from the beauty community. Mainly, their True Gloss line that comes in 12 wearable shades is the MVP. With a lightweight texture, pigmented formula and intense hydration, these glosses are innovative and unique. If you were wondering what to try from the newly restructured brand, these would be it.

As much as we love the no-makeup makeup look, especially, during Summer when heavier makeup melts right off, a simple trick is to switch your lip color up. But you don’t want to go for just any bold color and pinky peach isn’t the only option. The latest trends include unique tones, monochromatic looks, and a long-awaited change of texture.
The beauty industry has been breaking the barriers for inclusion in the areas of race, body shape, and gender. We now see models showing off the beauty of their skin conditions, flaws, and truths. But there still seems to be a missing demographic. The mature women. Here are the brands that have given them the attention they deserve.
I’m guessing you heard of the term hyaluronic acid at least once in the past week. It could’ve been in an Instagram ad, on a Neutrogena commercial, or even from your BFF. This is a highly trendy and coveted skincare ingredient. But why, and what does it do?
Have you noticed the abundance of CBD and hemp oil in some of the latest beauty launches? If not, you must be living under a rock. This cannabis craze is taking over everything from skincare to makeup and more. Is it actually effective or is it just a trend? Even with this growing use of CBD, many people still don’t understand its benefits and safety.
After years of this biotin craze, newer beauty vitamin brands are launching what seems like every day with different ingredients to target specific beauty needs. While biotin is still on the top of the beauty vitamin list of ingredients, there are tons of other formulations making their way into this field. So which one is right for you?

Nearly every cosmetics brand from affordable to indie and luxury have launched their own take on the latest color trends for 2019.
It is no secret the beauty world contributes to the abundance of plastic waste taking over our planet. With plastic shampoo bottles, mascara wands and powder compacts, we add more to the earth’s collective pollution. And the very least we can do is to shop from brands with sustainability in their DNAs.
Having an allergy or bad reaction to beauty products is very common and very annoying. With all the questionable ingredients that is no surprise. It can be difficult to determine what is okay and what is not. And the FDA regulations are not always as strict or safe as we would like. While everyone has different sensitivities, there are some ingredients that are well known to cause problems.
We are all familiar with powder highlighters like the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfecter, cream highlighters like Benefit Watts Up, and even liquid highlighters. But there is a newcomer to the world of makeup. She has taken off like nothing I have seen before; she is the jelly highlighter.

Changing your nail color can change your entire look. Adding a red nail to a basic tee and jeans gives you unmistakable class. Going from nude nails to a bright white gives a neutral yet crisp and clean vibe. And if you decide on nail art, you can show every detail of your personal style.
Along with the beauty products you always hear about, there are plenty of fantastic ones flying under your radar. Sometimes stepping outside of your comfort zone and dipping your toes into a new and unfamiliar territory is just what your beauty routine needs!
Just as in all aspects of life, the beauty world has its fair share of controversies. From cosmetics application methods to brand drama, there have been disagreements that have gone down in the makeup books for years. You know how the world is split on pineapple pizza? Well, the beauty industry is split on some things too.
There are just some brands that have been around the block and then again. They are classics, but along with new product launches, new brands are popping up now more than ever. The beauty market is in dire need of a shake up, and it seems that start-ups rather than big budget leaders are here to make it happen, with broader shade ranges, new ideas, and fun concepts.
After dying my hair regularly for more than 10 years, I have tried it all. I have gone to the salon for bleach. I have colored my own hair, going brown, blonde, and red. I have used purple shampoos, toners, and every product I could find. With all that experience, I have tried, tested, and relied on the best products around.
We have all heard of food fasting; some of us do it for health reasons, others for religious ones. All in all, fasting is beneficial for controlling your blood sugar, heart health, weight loss, and some experts say it can even aid in cancer prevention. But, what is the deal with skin fasting?
There are popular versions of acne spot treatment. There are luxury ones and drugstore alternatives. And although they are all marketed in the same general way, used in the same way and tend to share common ingredients, they are not identical. I cannot tell you which came first, but I can tell you which does what, how they are rated, and which is my personal favorite.
At one time I would have said Target sold drugstore beauty brands, you know the classics: CoverGirl, L’Oreal, Maybelline. But, Target has been shaking things up recently. Not only have a lot of stores gotten a “next generation” makeover at the high-end level, but their beauty sections have exploded with new brands, relaunched ones, and a decent selection of cruelty-free and eco-friendly findings.

The exfoliators you used back in the day, St. Yves among others, probably had little plastic beads in them, which are now banned. Not only were these detrimental to the environment but they could burst within the pores causing serious damage. All of those have since been replaced with physical exfoliators. What is a physical exfoliator, you ask? Here are basics of exfoliation!

For how long has makeup been marketed solely to women? Just because a product has pink packaging, is sold near handbags, and being used by female models does not mean it is only meant for women. And times are changing. Men, transgenders, and those who are gender-neutral are making their voices heard in the beauty world.

So, other than amping up your moisturizer game, here is how you can make your skincare and beauty routines work this fall.

Have you heard of franken-makeup? Maybe not. After all, it is a relatively new idea and is not exactly a running success. No, it isn’t making your makeup look like Frankenstein or anything like that. It also isn’t the next cat eye or liquid lip craze. It was first introduced to the online beauty community about a year ago by one of the most unique creators there is Safiya Nygaard.
